How to Choose the Right School for Your Child

Looking for a good school can be challenging. There are many different options that can confuse parents and make it hard to decide which school is right for their children.

A school is an institution for the teaching of students under college age. It may also refer to a specific field of study: a business school; a law school; or a medical school.

Educational Goals

Developing educational goals can help you stay motivated in your education. They should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. These educational goals should also provide you with a clear start and end point. They should also be challenging but realistic.

Ensure that students have access to high quality instructional programs based on common core standards that support teacher growth and student achievement.

Develop partnerships to promote parent involvement and participation in promoting the social, emotional and academic growth of children.

Provide opportunities for students to learn about the world and how to be responsible citizens through community service.

To develop an inquisitive mind, encourage creativity and enable the discovery of hidden talent. To enable students to become lifelong learners. To empower them to face challenges and pursue their goals. To instill virtues and help them acquire sterling qualities. To prepare them for the All India Senior Secondary Examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.

Extracurricular Activities

Students who participate in extracurricular activities have a lot to learn – not only about themselves but also about how to be part of a group and to cooperate with others. They learn how to work together in a team context, take initiative, and acquire a number of important skills like time management. They can also develop a sense of responsibility and perseverance through competition, as well as a healthy attitude towards differences.

For example, a high school senior who volunteers to organize the school’s homecoming dance learns how to manage her own time and work with people of diverse backgrounds. She might also discover that she has an interest in organizing events, which may lead to her future career choice.

Extracurricular activities can include anything from sports teams to journalism and publishing to student government, as well as the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC), which introduces teenagers to military customs, elements of leadership, and more.

Safety

Children are the apple of parents’ eyes and they don’t leave any stone unturned to keep them safe. Hence, it becomes imperative for schools to have proper safety measures in place both inside the school premises and while travelling from and to the institute.

One of the best ways to ensure safety is by limiting access points. This can be done by ensuring that all outside doors are locked and that only authorized staff or students are allowed to enter the building. Moreover, security cameras should be placed in all entry and exit points.

A good school safety policy should also be set up that enables kids to report any suspicious activity anonymously. It would give them a sense of security and make them feel that their concerns will be taken seriously. This will encourage them to be more active and participate in various activities without fear of punishment. Schools should also train their teachers on how to respond in case of emergencies.

Transportation

While students in ultra-urban campuses may have no transportation issues, many in rural areas do face difficulties. School districts can provide their own buses or contract with private companies to provide them. Parents can also hire private drivers through such services as HopSkipDrive to transport their children on a prearranged basis.

The New York State Education Department defines “school transportation” as all motor vehicles providing travel between school programs and community residences, whether the vehicles are owned or operated by schools or their boards of education or for hire. However, the State’s reimbursement policy caps the amount of grant funds that a district can receive to cover school transportation costs.

Most public and charter schools in New York City use bus service to transport students. Such buses are often painted in a bright color that matches the school’s colors. Private and independent schools may also have ‘activity’ style buses which are more like smaller vans and can be driven by school staff without special licenses, in order to save on external hire costs.
