Discipline

Community
Community schools use the assets of their local community to strengthen school conditions, increase learning opportunities, and support student success. This approach can be especially effective for schools that serve low-income families and students of color.
They do this by providing social, health and other services within their buildings. These services are often provided by community organizations that work closely with the school to ensure they are aligned with academic expectations and school culture. This is called “wraparound” service.
Educators and parents also benefit from the sense of community that is created in these schools. It can provide them with a network of people that they might not have met otherwise. This could include parents teaching their children a new skill, community members running book clubs, and students networking with potential future employers. This kind of networking can happen if schools keep in regular contact with their communities, by organising recurring events and going out into the community to meet residents.
