Education Support

Education support is a broad category of services that help learners and educators. They can include tutoring, mentoring, counseling, coaching, and guidance. Education support also includes resources and programs that promote healthy school environments.

Effective educational support requires collaboration and a student-centered approach. This can help at-risk students feel like they belong and inspire them to succeed.

Academic support

Academic support programs provide students with the resources and services they need to reach their full potential. They offer specialized one-on-one tutoring, mentoring and research assistance. They can also help students find accommodations based on their disabilities. In addition, these programs can teach students how to manage their time and study effectively.

Many post-secondary schools have academic support services, including advising, writing centers and tutorials. In some cases, students can even use academic resources online. However, these resources look different from school to school. It is important for students to know when they need help and how to get it.

Expenditures associated with ancillary support activities should be coded to the appropriate primary activity categories. For example, the cost of a student computer lab should be allocated to Student Computing Support. Similarly, expenditures for outreach education directors should be coded to Academic Administration. These are not the same as department chairpersons, which should be coded to Academic Administration.

Career guidance

Career guidance is a process that helps individuals explore and choose careers that are suitable for their strengths, abilities, and aspirations. It can also be helpful for those who have already chosen their careers, as it may help them make the necessary adjustments to meet the needs of the job market.

Students are often confused about which career to pursue, and it is easy to get misguided by the well-meaning advice of friends and family. Choosing the right career can be the key to long-term happiness and success. But, without proper guidance, many students end up regretting their career choice years down the line.

There are a number of resources available for career guidance, including online platforms and mentoring services. These resources can help you identify your career goals, develop a plan to achieve them, and find the appropriate education or training needed to attain your goals. Moreover, online platforms offer flexibility for those with other commitments, such as work or family.

Counseling

Students often face emotional problems that interfere with their academic progress and peer relationships. These issues can be very serious and require professional intervention. Many schools have counselors on staff to address these issues and provide guidance and coping strategies for students. Counseling for students has been shown to improve student academic performance, behavior, and emotional well-being.

Counselors will help a student identify and express their feelings, learn new behaviors, and develop healthy coping skills. They will also listen to a student’s concerns and respect their confidentiality. Students can maximize their counseling experience by participating actively in sessions, coming to appointments on time, and being open and honest with their counselors.

A counselor’s job is a demanding one. They need to keep up with the latest research and trends, but they must be able to apply their knowledge in practice. That’s why they need books that are quick reads, brimming with practical exercises, and filled with free worksheets and downloadable resources!

Mental health support

Mental health support is an important aspect of well-being, and many people don’t know where to turn for help. Fortunately, there are several resources available to those in need. These include national and local advocacy groups, mental health care facilities, and mental health helplines. Some of these are free and confidential, while others may require a referral or have fees.

Occupational therapy (OT) can help improve mental wellness, especially for people who are struggling in school settings. It also provides mental health education and training. OT practitioners can provide a wide range of mental health services, including prevention and recovery, to individuals across the lifespan.

Humanitarian organizations do everything they can in crisis situations to help rebuild lives and communities, but mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) is often overlooked. It is crucial to make this a part of basic assistance during emergencies. UNHCR has made this a priority and is developing tools to implement MHPSS in emergency contexts.
